Venice and Riviera del Brenta
This excursion will lead us to the discover of Brenta canal, the so-called Canal Grande of the dryland, and of its villas and greenery that Venetian aristocracy used to love so much. At the end of Brenta canal we will admire the Venetian lagoon.
We will reach Stra by bus and see the façade of Villa Pisani, the queen of villas.
We will stop here and visit this masterpiece of Venetian dry land architecture. Its rooms are decorated with the frescoes of the most famous Venetian painters of the 18th century, such as G.B.Tiepolo, who painted the ball room.
We will then cycle along Brenta canal, where villas come in succession, and see the most important villages and towns like Dolo and Mira.
After a lunch break we will continue cycling and in the final part of the canal we will see the only Palladian villa of Riviera del Brenta, that is villa Foscari Malcontenta. The atmosphere of this area is calm and quiet, with corners of unspoilt nature where willows gently touch the water of the canal.
After a stop to admire the façade of the villa, that almost blends with the surrounding landscape, we will continue towards Fusina, where Brenta flows into the lagoon. We will then leave our bicycles to take a ferry to Zattere, in Venice, and enjoy the amazing view of the city where the earth touches the water and the lagoon melts with the sky.
We will walk through the less known but still beautiful streets and reach the railway station, where we will take a train to go back to Montegrotto.
Chioggia and its lagoon
We will cycle along Bacchiglione river, see the water works carried out by La Serenissima for centuries and how they changed the landscape. We will cross Sottomarina and its shore and enjoy a beautiful view of the lagoon from the dam.
We will also visit Chioggia and its alleys, its churches, its fishmarket and the granary. We will go back to Abano/Montegrotto by bus. Length: approx. 60km
