Sculptor Giuseppe Maiorana was born Palermo in 1971. After obtaining a degree in Economics, he worked in the financial sector for several years, both in Italy and abroad, before deciding to dedicate himself entirely to his art. He chose Pietrasanta as his base for creating and producing his bronze sculptures.
His work takes him back in time, researching the ancestral values of human civilization, symbolically represented by anthropomorphic figures which are metaphorically called Primitives.
Primitives is a journey into the human unconscious, moving between images and symbols; mythology and spirituality. Images and symbols which have always manifested a mystical and magical power.
Myths and legends which despite having different origins, establish universally recognised symbols of that which belongs to the original substratum of the human collective.
A model of remote yet current behaviour; one that goes beyond the influences of time and the environment, uniting human beings and ancient and modern cultures.
The Totem is the primitive; an expression of the wisdom of an individual born on the foundations of the wisdom of previous generations, which they then absorb and elaborate.
As Margherita Hack said: “The progression of knowledge is made possible by the work of the great geniuses who preceded us.”
In the same way, traditions, culture and values are transmitted to us all by those who had the sensitivity and intelligence to give us this gift.
The Totem represents the flow of this heritage being handed down to us.
Therefore, the head at the top of the totem stands on a solid base: the heads of those who preceded us.
